What is Residential Care?

Residential care is for people who may need some assistance with day to day tasks such as washing, dressing, healthy & nutritious meals prepared for them and could benefit from some socialisation. Residential Care is a great fit for families who are worried about their loved ones living on their own and would sleep better knowing there are qualified care assistants available 24-hours a day if needed.

Choosing the right Residential Care:

It is a very difficult decision to make but here are some guiding principles:

  • Research and visit as many homes as you can and use CQC Reports to compare them and useful agencies like Help the Aged.
  • Talk to people you know who have been through the experience and ask for recommendations.
  • When you visit a home does it feel like a home or a hotel? Does the Manager know the individual residents and their families? Do all the staff appear friendly and welcoming? Are the staff permanent or agency and how do they interact with other residents?
  • Does the home feel homely or part of a big Corporation? Are residents and staff happy, friendly and relaxed?

Laurel Care Home’s 38 years of Residential Care

Our 38 years of family-run residential care at Laurel Care Home has given us a unique insight into understanding our resident’s fears and doubts around the decision for residential care. Our residents love the comfort and privacy of their own home and wish to retain their independence. We work tirelessly to give them the space and independence they need to enjoy their days as if they were at home with some added comfort, activities to enjoy and as much support as possible, whenever they need it.

As an individual’s needs change over time we can adapt the level of support to suit their changing requirements. By choosing Laurel Care Home, a resident will not need to find a new home when their nursing needs change and become more complex.

Our experienced Registered Manager is able to guide and support you through the minefield that is Care. We can direct you to the right departments within social care and West Hampshire CCG and support you in completing the right applications to ensure you are getting the right funding you are entitled to.

When the CQC Inspector Called last year:

“People and relatives spoke warmly of the staff team and described them as, “Lovely, caring, kind, professional and friendly.” One relative said, “I would give them 100% for care, politeness and kindness”. Another relative told us, “Everyone is so lovely, polite, smart, friendly and they know everyone so well.” One person told us, “The staff are lovely, we have a good laugh and a joke…they pull my leg…it’s good fun.”
